WHAT GOES ON UNDER THE SPRAY SKIRT?
WHAT ABOUT MY LEGS?
You have 3 points of contact, your heals and feet, knees and your bum….
How can we use each one of these to improve your kayaking especially freestyle….
Let’s start with your knees.
We can lift one knee to tilt the boat, with a forward, neutral and negative body position
You can pull up on both knees simultaneously towards you chest
You can pull up on one knee towards your chest with a negative body position
Now the feet
You can push with both feet on your block head with your toes
You can push with both feet on your heals
You can push one heal or set of toes
When trying these feet drills try and maintain a neutral body position, holding your lower abs in and using your bum muscles to apply heal pressure.
Now the bum…
You can have even weight on both checks in all 3 body positions (forward neutral and negative)
You can sink more weight into one side, in all 3 body positions.
You can think about thrusting your hips forward like a boof.
This pretty much covers everything that is possible do underneath your deck.
Next week we will look at what these different moves do to the boat, so see weather you can answer them before next week yourself.
Hope this helps!!
