POWER OF SMALL COMMUNITTIES

 by Tanya Faux

On the way to Down town Revelstoke

As a wondering Kayaker, it always amazing me how many small passionate communities of kayakers there are around the world.

Revelstoke , British Columbia is one. It is my first North American Winter and I can see now, why a lot of kayakers head to South America ! With temperature constantly below freezing and, snow falling heavily as I write, and rivers with ice shelf undercuts everywhere, it is like being in a drought back home in Australia. It is impossible to paddle….

Through the initiative of local paddlers and the support of local industries. This small community has got together and organized a winter pool night. Why?  Because the communities hear love kayaking and they want to refine there skills and be prepared for the spring melt.

Swimming lanes moved to the side, at least15 people came for the first night. Was a amazing to see the enthusiasm to see people with the drive to learn and improve on there skills. From a back deck role to bow stalls to just paddling forward for the first time!
But also the generousity of people sharing there time, kayaker teaching kayaker, people sharing there love for paddling!

For me personaly it was also a big moment! It was my first time sitting in my freestyle kayak after blowing out my MCL (Medial Collateral ligament) completely, in my left knee. And I am back! And dose it feel good to know that can still paddle after 4 months on the side line!
While I will only be here in Revelstoke for a few more weeks while a wait patiently for a 3 year

VISA to come though from the US, I will look forward to every Tuesday night!

Right now though I will be outside building a kayak slide, nothing like practicing seal launching in powder!

Congratulations to the Revelstoke paddling community, and thanks to the Recreationa Centre.
fun times on the way home

Thanks for a great night
