The last two days have been quite interesting to say the least.   I feel as though I’m playing a character in the next John Grisham or Tom Clancy book in this small town of Cochrane where the Rio Baker flows by….

The Baker River

Wowsers….the Rio Baker is a full-on Class V big water river run.  Big boats are a must!!!  The YGP boys have run the entire section of the Rio Baker.  The first and third sections are extremely lethal if you swim, monster-size holes that could eat huge semi trucks alive.    The second section is easier than the first and third but filled with whirlpools and boils.  A swim there could also be nasty.

Today we ran the lower section of the Futa where you put in at a bridge and take out at a bridge. Easy shuttle with a perfect big-water play run equals a paddler´s paradise. This is my favorite section since it is filled with one rapid after the next of constant wave trains.   The first rapid there is a wave called Pistola, which is very fast and bouncy.  Great training for the Worlds.
